Slowly but surely, the week is supposed to cool, day-by-day. By mid-afternoon, there were heavy clouds and a strong breeze, so working outside was manageable and there is an end to the intense heat in-sight.

I started the day with a walk around Bergen after drop-off. Walking Thomas on the paved path is always so much different than marching across gravel in the meadow. There’s certainly more to see. We don’t go quite as far, but I like the variety, and it calms me somehow. Sometimes I imagine living closer into town, what it would be like to walk to the path, walk to the coffee shop. It’s weird to live someplace where I have to drive to the place I want to take a walk.

I ran a couple of errands and caught up on messages via Voxer and Marco Polo. It’s funny—cool funny—to have friends all over the place that I can be in daily contact with, during the seemingly mundane moments of my day. Sometimes it’s catch up, but today it was actual philosophical conversation, in little snippets in between Wal-mart and making breakfast.

The rest of the day was work. Trevor was home and working too, so we sat together on the deck, took a leisurely lunch, interspersed work tasks with life chat. Back-to-school time is always such a major transition, it makes everything feel a little unsteady. It’s nice to keep things even and easy at home.
