Because back-to-school season feels like the start of a year to me, it is my preferred time for resolutions. I resolved to cement my morning routines now, juicing and cleaning the kitchen before sitting down to coffee. I journaled and read from my non-fiction book selection.

I worked out in my bedroom because I do not like the gym.

After two weeks of vacation, I had to catch up on work. The morning was warm and partly sunny, but everything was wet from overnight thunderstorms. I sat at my desk, back in the sunroom. Strangely, the first day of August is cool enough that I never overheat in this room full of windows.

By afternoon, thunderstorms have rolled in again. We wrap up our work and make drinks for a happy hour chat. Dinner is tacos and an episode of “Family Matters.”

It rained through the evening, and we sat in the sunroom as a family to read from Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire. I didn’t leave the house all day, spent most of it in this room.
